Student Nurses’ Association Votes in New Leadership
The 2011-2012 board members will begin their terms in the fall.
Like most institutes for nursing education, leadership at the University of Michigan School of Nursing comes from the dean and a body of faculty members. Unlike at most nursing schools, however, the students at the University of Michigan also go to great lengths to pave their own course, organizing themselves for the betterment of the school’s students through the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA). According to its bylaws, SNA’s purpose is to “assume responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to ensure the highest quality of future University of Michigan nurses” and to “provide programs representative of fundamental and current professional interests and concerns.” In these objectives, SNA excels, hosting an annual fundraising event for nurses in Haiti that has raised over $10,000 to date, working with student services to facilitate transition sessions for graduating BSN seniors, and coordinating events that forge a more closely knit community and cohort.
To carry on this tradition of leadership within the student body are the 2011-2012 Student Nurses’ Association’s newly elected board members:
- President – Amber Hoffman
- Vice-President of Finance – Anthony Minaudo
- Vice-President of Professional Development – Marika Willets
- Vice-President of International Affairs – Alexandrea Garbus
- Vice-President of National Affairs – Jillian Kay
- Director of Fundraising – Janna Kramer
- Director of Membership – Mary Cochran
- Director of Community Outreach – Emily McKenzy
- Standing Cabinet Member – Lindsay McCurley
Thank you to the outgoing leaders of the Student Nurses' Association whose leadership has enriched the 2010-2011 nursing student experience at the University of Michigan.
