Five U-M School of Nursing Faculty Members Selected to be Inducted as Fellows by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN)

AAN Fellows are selected from the nation's top nurse researchers, policy makers, educators, and practitioners for their significant contributions to nursing and health care.

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) announced Friday that 176 nurse leaders will be inducted as Fellows this year. Of the eight individuals recognized from Michigan, five are faculty members at the U-M School of Nursing. The School of Nursing congratulates the following inductees on this prestigious honor: Associate Professor Dr. Cynthia Arslanian-Engoren, Assistant Professor Dr. Christopher Friese, Assistant Professor Dr. Maria Katapodi, Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Jody Lori, and Associate Professor Dr. Janis Miller.

Selection criteria for membership in the Academy include evidence of significant contributions to nursing and health care as well as sponsorship by two current Academy Fellows. Applicants are reviewed by a panel of elected and appointed Fellows. The 2012 cohort, comprised of the nation’s top nurse researchers, policy makers, scholars, executives, educators, and practitioners, represents the largest class of inductees to date.

The 2012 AAN Fellows will be inducted at the Academy’s 39th Annual Meeting and Conference to be held October 13, 2012, in Washington, DC. The new Fellows will join the Academy in its service to the public and the nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis, and dissemination of nursing knowledge. AAN is composed of more than 1,800 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy, and research.
