School Co-sponsors Event to Further the Work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

For the past 25 years, the University of Michigan has chosen to celebrate the national holiday, Martin Luther King Junior Day, by canceling classes and in their place, hosting keynotes, lectures, roundtables, discussions, and other events that “continue and remember the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” Also, “in addition to events that focus on historical authenticity and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, programs highlight historical and contemporary issues of race, class, social justice, diversity, and societal change."

Student Groups Organize Efforts to Give Back During the Holidays

It’s a time of final exams and potentially a lot of stress, but during this holiday season, the students at the University of Michigan School of Nursing are embracing the spirit of giving and have organized efforts to support their communities, both locally in Ann Arbor and across the globe at a military base in Afghanistan.

Dr. Friese Becomes First Nurse Scientist to Win Pathway to Independence Award

Dr. Christopher Friese, an assistant professor at the U-M School of Nursing, was the first nurse scientist to receive a Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The objective this award program is to "increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented NIH-supported independent investigators. The program is designed to facilitate a timely transition from a mentored postdoctoral research position to a stable independent research position" (NIH). Dr. Redman Discusses the Role of Nurses in Global Healthcare Delivery

School Hosts Discussion with Dr. Denis Mukwege, an Ob/Gyn helping women in war-torn Congo

In a region of the world with plenty to despair, Dr. Mukwege is building a "City of Joy.

On November 16, the U-M School of Nursing’s Office of Global Outreach (GO) sponsored a reception with Dr. Denis Mukwege, an Ob/Gyn who has dedicated his career to help female victims of sexual violence in war-torn Congo. In town to accept the U-M Wallenberg Award for his humanitarian efforts and to present the 2010 Wallenberg lecture, he was a man in high demand.

Doctoral Candidate Becomes Director of the Adult Cancer Survivorship Program

Patty Clark, RN, MSN, APRN-BC, has been named the Adult Cancer Survivorship Program Director. Patty earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Baylor University, her Master's of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in Arlington, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Michigan's School of Nursing.
