OSHA Selects Master’s Student to Study Occupational Health
Jacqueline Higuera will be one of a select few to complete a Graduate Nurse Internship with the government agency.
Jacqueline Higuera, a master’s student in the Adult Nurse Practitioner program at the U-M School of Nursing with a concentration in occupational health nursing, has been selected for a Graduate Nurse Internship at the United States Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). Chosen from among a national pool of applicants, Jacqueline will live and work in Washington, DC for eight weeks, pursing research opportunities and educational experiences in worker safety and health with OSHA.
OSHA’s primary objective is to ensure safe and healthy working conditions for people by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance. To this end, OSHA provides an internship opportunity for graduate level nurses designed to develop a cadre of occupational health nurses with experience in occupational health and safety policy and regulatory affairs at the national level. The program also strives to prepare participants to enter the occupational health community as worker advocates with direct, hands-on knowledge of OSHA’s mission.
