Doctoral Student Awarded a Spring/Summer Research Grant
Melissa Bathish is one of few students provided university support for collaborative research with faculty beyond the traditional academic year.
Melissa Bathish, a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, was recently awarded a Spring/Summer Research Grant by the Rackham Graduate School. These funds will allow her to engage with School of Nursing faculty members Dr. AkkeNeel Talsma and Dr. Christine Anderson to evaluate an operating room (OR) nurse expertise model that she has been working on as part of her dissertation research. She will use data from the recently established Perioperative Outcomes Initiative (POI) Hospital Network which is a group of hospitals who share data with the end goal of using this data to enhance perioperative processes and improve surgical patient outcomes.
The Rackham Spring/Summer Research Grants Program was created to enable faculty members to collaborate with doctoral students on research and scholarly projects during the spring and summer terms. In addition, the program provides financial support as well as experiences that benefit the intellectual and professional growth of participating doctoral candidates.
