Alumna Appointed Term Chair at University of Pennsylvania
The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing has announced the appointment of U-M School of Nursing alumna Dr. Anne M. Teitelman as the Patricia Bleznak Silverstein and Howard A. Silverstein Endowed Term Chair in Global Women’s Health. Appointment to a term chair represents a high honor at Penn and recognizes the outstanding productivity and performance of a faculty member.
In addition to serving as assistant professor of nursing at Penn, Teitelman also currently practices at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the Helen O. Dickens Center for Women’s Health. Her research focuses on HIV prevention among adolescents and in understanding intimate partner violence as an HIV risk factor. She is interested in promoting health and equity of marginalized groups, especially adolescent girls and young women. She is well known for her expertise in primary health care with underserved populations, particularly in the areas of health among youth, sexual risk reduction for adolescents, and partner violence. As an instructor of advanced practice nurses for over fifteen years, Teitelman challenges her students to integrate social and behavioral research with health sciences to inform their practice.
Teitelman received her PhD in Nursing, along with a graduate concentration in Women's Studies, from the University of Michigan in 2002.
