UMSN Remembers Joyce O’Connor
Thousands at the school benefited from her work as laboratory coordinator for the Clinical Learning Center.
For 25 years, Joyce O’Connor’s contributions were instrumental to the activities in the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) Clinical Learning Center (CLC). Simulation-based learning in the CLC is a critical component for the education of nursing students, as they receive their first hands-on training with high-tech mannequins. Joyce’s unassuming but capable nature ensured the simulations were always well-prepared to provide students with valuable learning experiences.
“Joyce worked here many years and touched many people, and she will be greatly missed,” said Director of the CLC Michelle Aebersold, Ph.D., RN, in informing faculty, staff, and students of her passing on April 10, 2014. “She died peacefully with her family at her side.” Stories of Joyce’s kindness and willingness to help are being shared amply throughout the halls of UMSN.
A tribute fund has been established for Joyce O’Connor through the University of Michigan. An obituary that accepts comments and remembrances has been posted by the Phillips Funeral Home of South Lyon. Memorial contributions may also be made in her honor to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 1471 E. 12 Mile Rd. Madison Heights, MI 48071.
