An inclusive education, with support every step of the way
Just like the patients you will care for throughout your nursing career, members of the U-M School of Nursing community come from all walks of life. Creating and maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment for all informs everything we do. Hear from our Chief Inclusion Officer Rushika Patel, Ph.D., about our commitment to you and the many resources available to help you succeed:
Undergraduate Peer Mentoring Program
Supports students through peer-to-peer conversations and experiences. Mentors provide students with a nursing family they can lean on for support and good advice or even ideas to assist with academic, social, or personal challenges.
Science Learning Circles
Provides a daily opportunity for smaller groups of students to connect, build community, support one another, study, and share strategies for academic advancement in first- and second-year science and statistics courses.
Nursing Gateways Fellowship
An opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to explore critical issues and their relationship with the intersection of ability, citizenship, class, cultural geography, gender, race and/or sexual identity.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Kristen Adams, Ph.D. is a U-M Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) counselor embedded at the School of Nursing. She is available to provide undergraduate and graduate nursing students with short-term counseling to help address and overcome personal difficulties that interfere with academic and career objectives. Common concerns that CAPS helps with include test anxiety, academic difficulties, stress, problems with relationships, self-esteem, insomnia, depression, substance use, suicidal thinking, sexuality and more. Learn more about Kristen and the insight she provides nursing students on the CAPS Corner web page.
From help managing stress to personalized tutoring and services for students with diverse needs, there are a number of resources at the School of Nursing and across campus to help you overcome any challenge on the way to earning your BSN.
