COVID-19 policy changes effective Monday, June 21, 2021

U-M Community:

I want to call attention to the really great news for all of us who are, or will be, working in person on campus. The COVID-19 policy change described below is effective June 21 and applies to students, faculty, staff and guests on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses.

Please note that fully vaccinated individuals who self-report their vaccine information to the University of Michigan are no longer required to wear a mask or social distance in almost all indoor sites or outdoors. I just registered my vaccination on the self-report site, and it is straightforward and fast. You will need an image of your vaccination card to upload into the site. And you will need to enter the data from the card: your vaccine lot number and date that you received the shot(s).

These are a few exceptions to the sites on campus where this rule applies: 1) active, in-use classrooms, 2) on campus transportation, and 3) health care areas where patients may be present. My understanding is that the reason for active classrooms to remain under the mask mandate for all is because we don’t have good records of vaccination rates at present for students. Once we do, it is highly likely that the approach to classrooms will change.  So please encourage your students to register their vaccination status!

Also note: Students, faculty or staff who are not vaccinated or who decline to submit information must continue wearing a face covering indoors and physically distance from others. Students in this category will also be required to complete weekly COVID testing in the fall.

Certain units, such as University of Michigan – Health, may issue local level policies that supersede the policy and must be followed.

ResponsiBLUE, the daily COVID-19 symptom check App, continues to be required for all students, faculty and staff who enter our buildings. Guests are expected to complete ResponsiBLUE Guest prior to accessing campus buildings which includes information on the U-M face covering policy. Our UMSN greeters, Crystal and Ben, will continue to be in place through the fall, will check ResponsiBLUE and assist with entry.

I want to urge you to self-report your COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible. Students who will be required to test in the fall are asked to sign up for testing as soon as possible.

Looking forward to seeing your faces! P
