Get to know new UMSN staff

The University of Michigan School of Nursing is growing! Get to know the new names and faces that have joined our team over the past few months in a variety of roles. 

Coreen Abston

Coreen Abston, Administrative Coordinator/Project Coordinator

Coreen Abston brings more than 10 years of management/project administration in a healthcare setting for her role in the dean's office. She provides support for the dean, faculty support services and UMSN's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. 

 

 

 

 

 

Ana AlasAna Alas, Clinical research coordinator health

Ana Alas is a program coordinator for the Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities, with responsibility for the M3 project (Mobile Messaging Intervention to Present New HIV Prevention Options for MSM). Prior to joining the center, Ana’s experiences included working on program evaluation as well as working as an HIV test counselor and prevention specialist in the Metro Detroit Area where her interest sparked to work with programs concentrated around providing HIV preventive services. 

 

 

 

Lindsay Cannon

Lindsay Cannon, Clinical research coordinator 

Lindsay Cannon is joining UMSN after earning her master’s degree in social work and public health from the University of Michigan. Her research interests include: access to family planning, integration of reproductive health care and substance use treatment, prevention interventions for sexual violence and intimate partner violence.

 

 

 

 

Alexis EllisAlexis Ellis, Clinical research coordinator

Prior to joining UMSN’s Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences, Alexi Ellis was an administrative and events coordinator at U-M’s Detroit Center. She brings more than 10 years of experience working in a number of industries, including non-profit, education and accounting. In her new role at UMSN she will be responsible for recruiting and community engagement in Detroit.

 

 

 

 

Amy GroverAmy Grover, Administrative assistant intermediate

Amy Grover brings a wealth of experience in project management and administrative leadership to UMSN. Prior to joining the school, Grover worked in secondary education in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, where she worked with students on college guidance. In her free time she enjoys working in her stained glass studio, while listening to vinyl and relaxing with friends and family.

 

 

 

 

Shannon HelzermannShannon Helzerman, Administrative assistant intermediate

Shannon Helzerman join UMSN as an administrative assistant intermediate after working as an early childhood educator.

 

 

 

 

 

Kristie Khatibi, Research associate

Kristie Khatibi is a research associate in UMSN’s Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities. She works on the center’s Project iReach, which is an online life skills intervention aimed at decreasing HIV vulnerability among same-sex adolescent males. Khatibi is passionate about investigating the effects of social disparities on the health of vulnerable populations.

 

 

 

 

Lynn Kujawa, Contract and grant specialist

A 10-year employee of the University of Michigan, Lynn Kujawa joins UMSN after holding a variety of positions on the school’s Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses. In her new position she will focus on pre-award activities.

 

 

 

 

 

Erin MakiErin Maki, HR Assistant senior

Erin Maki is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, where she has been working in human resources since her graduation from the university. Before coming to UMSN, Erin worked with the employment team at the Shared Services Center.

 

 

 

 

 

Listron MannixListron Mannix, Clinical research project manager

Listron Mannix is the Center Manager for the Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities, with responsibility for the general managerial oversight of the center. Previously, he worked as the Prevention Services Manager for a local community-based organization in South Florida, where he managed and expanded HIV testing/counseling, outreach, and PrEP services while serving on several local and national planning councils. 

 

 

 

Jennifer Martin, Contract and grants specialist

Jennifer Martin has several years of experience working in various capacities in education and human services, and began to specialize in grants when leading WISD’s Education Project for Homeless Youth.  She feels fortunate to have a role in promoting positive impact for underserved populations through her position as a research administrator for UMSN.  Jennifer lives in southeast Ann Arbor with her spouse and teenage son; and her interests include social justice and ecological sustainability.

 

 

 

Amina PetersAmina Peters, Research associate

Amina Peters is a research associate for Dr. Janet Larson. she is a current master's student in Kinesiology and will be graduating in 2018.

 

 

 

 

 

She'Lon Tucker

She’Lon Tucker, Research associate

A graduate of the University of Michigan, She’Lon Tucker works with Professor Janet Larson in UMSN’s Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences. Outside of her work at U-M, she serves as a teen mentor at her church.
