The theme for this year’s annual leadership conference is Generating Transformative Engagement. Sessions will focus on positive thinking skills to decrease stress and improve coping. Practical, evidence-based strategies to facilitate retention and workforce supply and demand will be addressed. Results and recommendations from a Michigan nurse’s well-being study will also be presented.

Trauma and Burnout: Caring for the Nurses

Nurses are exposed to many potentially traumatic experiences at work, leading to burnout and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Self-care may not be enough to manage these concerns. - The conference participants will explore strategies for successful leadership during turbulent times, identify resources that enable nurses to develop leadership skills, and describe how the current healthcare environment impacts nurses and their practice. Featured speaker is: Michael R. Bleich, PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP, who has served on technical and advisory committees for HRSA, the Governance and Picker Institutes, AHA/AONE, and the IOM.
