Dr. Kalisch has conducted numerous research studies including an analysis of images of nurses, a comparison of the work environment of hospitals, an analysis of nursing news, the image of the nurse on the World Wide Web, a study of the impact of U.S. federal funds on nursing education and practice, and a study of nurse recruitment practices in hospitals etc. Her current research centers on missed nursing care (standard nursing care that it not being completed) and nursing teamwork. She is conducting an intervention to increase teamwork and decreased missed nursing care utilizing a train the trainer approach. She has authored nine books, including The Evolving Image of the Nurse, The Advance of American Nursing, Nurses on Television, and The Politics of Nursing, and edited a series of monographs on nursing management. She has published over 140 articles in such journals as Medical Care, The Joint Commission Journal on Patient Safety, Health Care Management Review, The American Journal of Nursing, Journal of Healthcare Management, Nursing Research, Nursing Outlook, Journal of Healthcare Management, American Journal of Medical Quality, International Journal for Quality in Health Care, and Journal of Advanced Nursing. She has made over 900 presentations throughout the world including China, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan, Lebanon, Singapore, Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Denmark, Equator, Italy and England. Dr. Kalisch is listed in numerous bibliographies such as Who’s Who in America and she is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She serves as a member as well as leader in numerous local, state and national advisory committees addressing health policy and nursing issues. Dr. Kalisch has been the recipient of many awards including distinguished alumnae at both the University of Maryland and the University of Nebraska and the American Organization of Nurse Executives Nurse Researcher award.

Teaching
Dr. Kalisch teaches courses on nursing systems and policy at the gradiate level.
