Dr. Knight's scholarship focuses on translating evidence-based practice research into professional settings to improve access to care for lower socioeconomic class populations, patient outcomes, and practitioners' mental health. He has published on improving patient compliance in ambulatory care. He has presented at scholarly and professional conferences on clinician burnout, informatics, and reducing patient no-shows to appointments at large academic center health systems. Dr. Knight's years of process excellence and improvement consulting experience in large and small healthcare systems, combined with his academic scholarship, catalyze practice change. His scholarship interests include leadership improvement, project management, informatics, developing high-performance teams, and quality/process improvement and efficiency techniques.

Teaching

Dr. Knight’s teaching philosophy involves motivating students to improve their deep problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop and implement interventions to improve patient care. He uses a team-based, problem-based case study format to stimulate student engagement and teamwork and improve clinical assessment skills. Dr. Knight emphasizes the benefits of diversity in developing high-performance student teams, helping students recognize how the unique experiences of each team member build a high-performance, well-rounded team. Dr. Knight teaches in the graduate and undergraduate programs, focusing on leadership, process excellence, and informatics.
