U-M School of Nursing students Awarded Murtland Scholarship

Two U-M School of Nursing midwifery students were recently awarded the Murtland Scholarship. Kayla Perroud, RN, BSN, and Whitni Smith, RN, BSN, are both students in the MSN Nurse-midwifery program and are expected to graduate in 2021.

U-M School of Nursing announces 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award winner

The University of Michigan School of Nursing and the UMSN Distinguished Alumni Award Selection Committee are excited to announce Linda Everett, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, as the winner of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award for her extensive contributions to nursing leadership, education and evidence-based practice. Everett earned her Ph.D. from the U-M School of Nursing in 1998.

Everett was nominated for this year’s award by 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award winner Jane Barnsteiner, Ph.D., RN, FAAN.

More young adults are abstaining from alcohol

Oct 12, 2020

Fewer college-age Americans drink alcohol, compared to nearly 20 years ago, according to a new study led by U-M School of Nursing professor Sean McCabe.

Between 2002 and 2018, the number of adults aged 18-22 in the U.S. who abstained from alcohol increased from 20% to 28% for those in college and from about 24% to 30% for those not in school, say researchers at the University of Michigan and Texas State University. And alcohol abuse among both groups decreased by roughly half.
