DNP and post-master's APRN certificate programs receive renewed accreditation from CCNE

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education’s (CCNE) Board of Commissioners renewed accreditation for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and post-master's APRN certificate programs at the University of Michigan School of Nursing for 10 years, extending to June 30, 2029. 

The accreditations are effective as of September 24, 2018, which was the first day of the CCNE on-site evaluations.

Beyond #MeToo at UMSN's Summer Institute

The 2019 UMSN Global Summer Institute on Reproductive and Sexual Health took place on May 10-17 in a two-day conference followed by a five-day workshop. The 2019 Summer Institute theme:  “Beyond #MeToo” explored ways to advance knowledge and practice to address gender based violence and human trafficking. More than 60 attendees from around the world networked with UMSN faculty and the larger community. UMSN’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award winner announced

The University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) and its Alumni Society Board of Governors selected Jane H. Barnsteiner, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, as this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award winner for her extensive contributions to nursing science, practice and education focused on patient safety and quality improvement. Barnsteiner earned her Ph.D. from UMSN in 1984.

Professorship puts spotlight on gender-based violence

University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) congratulates Assistant Professor Michelle Munro-Kramer, Ph.D., CNM, FNP-BC, on her selection as UMSN’s Suzanne Bellinger Feetham Professor. The professorship supports the research of a promising nursing faculty member who completed a doctoral degree within the past 10 years. Munro-Kramer’s research uses an ecological perspective to design interventions related to gender-based violence including sexual violence, intimate partner violence and human trafficking. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12 which is Florence Nightingale's birthday. Falling short on fall prevention

Caregivers are not being given the resources needed to prevent falls for their care recipient, according to new research from Geoffrey Hoffman, Ph.D., MPH, a University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) assistant professor, and a team of UMSN researchers. 

“Falls are a trifecta in terms of reasons why they need an increased focus,” explained Hoffman. “They are highly prevalent, cause a lot of damage, including death, and they are preventable. However, fall prevention is being left out of the discharge planning conversation and that needs to change.”

Faculty impact: Driven by family and practice to improve care for African-American women

Lenette Jones was nearly brought to tears while practicing for her first research assignment, but it wasn’t because she was overwhelmed with the task. It was because of what her own grandmother revealed.

The Rho Chapter of Sigma, nursing’s only international honor society, is celebrating the induction of its largest class to date. On March 31, 2019, 112 new members were welcomed into the organization during a ceremony at the Michigan League.
