UMSN's Dr. Marita Titler Co-Leads Patient-Engagement Component of $30 Million National PCORI and NIH Study

The focus is on reducing falls and injuries in older adults by testing new patient-centered strategies. Each year, one out of three adults over age 65 falls. A third of those falls result in moderate to severe injuries that can lead to further declines in health and loss of independence. Hillman Scholars Explore New Collaborations

UMSN hosts PhD students from the three universities in the prestigious program for its 2014 annual meeting, focused on “Nurses as Designers"

The 26 Hillman Scholars from the University of Michigan, University of North Carolina and University of Pennsylvania converged for a three-day meeting held on U-M’s Ann Arbor campus in May 2014. The theme, “Nurses as Designers” was selected to encourage the scholars to explore new ways of thinking about how design and technology, and partnerships with disciplines such as engineering, can improve health care.

The American College of Nurse Midwives Annual Meeting is considered the premier conference for midwifery.

“Midwives: Elevating Women’s Health” was the theme of the 59th annual American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Annual Meeting held in Denver in mid-May. Meet UMSN’s First Peace Corps Returnee Coverdell Fellow, Clara Julien

Bringing a global health perspective to American communities.

For graduate student Clara Julien, the path to a career in nursing wasn’t clear until her Peace Corps experience. “I never really thought about being a nurse,” says Julien. “It wasn’t a career I was exposed to growing up.”

Julien did have a strong interest in world culture and becoming a Peace Corps volunteer. She was accepted and originally was expected to fill an opening in Africa, but she wanted to use her Spanish language skills and was reassigned to Honduras as a health volunteer.  During her two years... UMSN Remembers Joyce O’Connor

Thousands at the school benefited from her work as laboratory coordinator for the Clinical Learning Center.

For 25 years, Joyce O’Connor’s contributions were instrumental to the activities in the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) Clinical Learning Center (CLC). Simulation-based learning in the CLC is a critical component for the education of nursing students, as they receive their first hands-on training with high-tech mannequins. Nearly 100 new members of the Rho Chapter were inducted, as awards celebrate excellence in nursing education, practice, research, and mentorship.

The award and induction ceremony for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) Rho Chapter is an annual event to honor achievements in nursing and to welcome future nursing leaders.  At this year’s ceremony held at the Michigan League, 99 new members were inducted.
