UMSN Piles on the Pints for Annual “Blood Battle” vs. Ohio State
Nov 09, 2012The University of Michigan is on a four-year winning streak in American Red Cross-sponsored blood drive.
On November 9, 2012, the School of Nursing hosted one of the nearly three dozen drives happening across campus in the 31st-annual Blood Battle against OSU. Nov 02, 2012Nurses in Mexico face rising challenges of chronic illness care, as changes in the country’s health care system bring more responsibilities.
Health care in Mexico is experiencing radical changes as the country settles in to its universal policy, Seguro Popular. While many of the new policies are undefined for nurses, they do have a broadened scope of duties including the ability to prescribe medicine, plus expanded leadership roles in educating patients on self-management of chronic diseases.

Dr. Bernadine Cimprich, an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN), has dedicated her life’s work to improving the care of people diagnosed with cancer. She was one of the first to describe attentional fatigue in women with breast cancer and its detrimental effect on cognitive function. She also developed the Attentional Fatigue Index (AFI), a widely-used measure to assess cancer patients' perceptions of their own mental fatigue.

New UMSN research could lower high-risk sexual behavior in adolescents
Oct 31, 2012The four-year $1.8-million grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) will be used to help parents talk to their children about sexual behavior in ways that will reduce risks.

UMSN Event Focuses on Student Safety
Oct 29, 2012As part of the University Michigan School of Nursing’s ongoing efforts to protect students, U-M police officer Garry Veld was invited to give his presentation, “See Something, Say Something.”
The students learned practical tips for protecting their valuables, as well as safety tips to protect themselves. Officer Veld explained situations where the students are most vulnerable, such as walking alone at night, and how to avoid being a target for criminals.
