Program prepares nurses with doctoral degrees

 

The Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence has awarded the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) a grant for the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program for 2012. Launched in 2008, with six scholars in three states, the program now includes more than 200 students at nearly 85 schools across the US. The program was created to prepare nurses with doctoral degrees and create new models of care delivery between schools of nursing and clinical settings.  “This award is critical in supporting graduate... U-M School of Nursing Will Expand with New Building Project

Expansion will create additional space for simulation and clinical learning for students to explore, research, engage, strive, and learn. Ann Arbor, Mich. – The U-M School of Nursing (UMSN) today announced it will construct a new building of approximately 75,000 gross square feet to accommodate instructional spaces, a clinical learning center with simulation and skill labs, and simulated patient suites in an environment that will foster collaboration and community. The Pressure Ulcer Clinical Care Daily provides nurses with data that is salient to the treatment of pressure ulcers in order to facilitate timely and directed care. 

Two U-M School of Nursing faculty—Assistant Professor Dr. AkkeNeel Talsma and Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Dana Tschannen—have developed a tool to assist nurses in making the best possible clinical decisions regarding treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers in acute care settings. The School of Nursing Moves to 6th Place in NIH Research Rankings

The School's advancement in ranking reflects our faculty's continued commitment to critical health sciences.  

In the 2011 National Institutes of Health (NIH) rankings, the U-M School of Nursing is now sixth place out of nursing schools nationwide in terms of research funding awarded. This placement represents a move forward from the School’s eighth place ranking of the last several years.

U-M School of Nursing Redesignated as a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center

The School of Nursing retains status as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center.  

The Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) has redesignated the U-M School of Nursing as a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Clinical Training in Health Promotion Nursing, effective for a period of four years. The School of Nursing was first designated as a WHO Collaborating Center in August 1997.
